Bio

Mike McCarroll is an American country music singer, songwriter, and recording artist who records both in Nashville, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia. His music blends traditional country, southern rock and Americana to create his own unique outlaw country style. He is a 2012 GA Music Award nominee for Country Male Artist of the Year. In 2011, he was nominated for three awards by Georgia-Country.com in the categories of Best Country Male, Best Country Band, and Best Americana Band. Mike and his band are 2009 winners of the Gorilla Productions Battle of the Bands, a multi-genre contest.

His debut album "At The Crossroads" was released in 2007 to positive reviews and garnered attention from record labels in Nashville. Mike followed up in 2010 with the release of his second album "Honky Tonk Dreams" which received strong reviews and led to a showcase for several Nashville record labels. His song "Cash Crop" went to #2 in Atlanta on the Reverbnation independent country charts in the summer of 2011 and is still a favorite on several radio stations all over north Alabama and Georgia. Another song, "If The Devil Brought You Roses" from the same CD, has received airplay on over 400 radio stations across the U.S.

MM's first memories of music revolve around his Mom and aunt dancing him around the kitchen countertop to Elvis singles "All Shook Up" and "Hound Dog". That was a fine place to start for the young McCarroll as he progressed into the 60's and 70's listening to rock music and then got into southern rock in late 70's and country music by the mid 80's.

Mike was born and raised in Harriman, Tennessee near Knoxville and Oak Ridge. When he went into the Air Force at eighteen during the Vietnam Era, a friend showed him a few chords on the guitar and a new and different interest began with music. Mike says the first song he learned was "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young. What got him serious about writing, recording, and performing was the emergence of alternative country music. When he discovered pioneers like Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, and Chris Knight, the excitement and feelings that were engaged with southern rock started all over and he was inspired once again.

Through the years, he wrote a number of rock songs for his own enjoyment. Little did he know what that would lead to. Music got put on the shelf for several years to pursue a career, raise a family and eventually to start and build his own business. After that phase of his life moved to a comfortable level, Mike decided to get back into music, jamming with a number of bands and playing a few gigs sporadically around the Atlanta area. Finally, he reached a point in life where the time and resources were available to cut and release an album of original songs.

Mike believes that what you hear on commercial radio is mostly cookie-cutter formula crap and even recorded two songs he wrote about it titled "Pop Style Cookie-Cutter Formula Country Song" and "Too Old and Too Country" poking a little fun at Nashville. He believes the real artists are the independent folks that you never hear on commercial radio. As a successful and independent business owner, this fits right into his outlook and philosophy about being free to create your own future and carve your own path through life.

His debut album "At The Crossroads" introduced this music man and warrior of life. The album embodied the very spirit and drive that Mike has embraced for so many years. It is filled with energetic real-life stuff featuring scorching rock, country and blues licks that originate from a man's soul. The album features Grammy Award-winning fiddle player Bobby Flores, famous Texas-based pedal steel player Tommy Detamore, and former ATLANTA lead guitarist Jody Worrell.

His second album, "Honky Tonk Dreams", took it to the next level. This album was recorded partly in Nashville and partly in Atlanta. It was produced by former Nashville producer J. David Leonard and was mastered by legendary producer/engineer Rodney Mills. Mike was assisted in the studio by several top session artists including Wendell Cox and David Northrup from Travis Tritt's band, ATLANTA former lead guitarist Jody Worrell and Sara Evans/Pam Tillis fiddle player Bethany Olds. "Honky Tonk Dreams" further refined Mike's signature outlaw country sound and established him as a rising country star and Nashville recording artist.

Mike released his third album "Twanglish" in 2015. The album is a mix of traditional country, rockin' outlaw country and southern rock featuring a number of great returning session artists including Wendell Cox, David Northrup, Jody Worrell, Tommy Dodd, Marla Feeney and Vallery Barbin. Two of the songs, Mixed Emotions and Bluer Than Memphis were recorded with Atlanta Rhythm Section members Paul Goddard, Dean Daughtry and Steve Stone. One song is an old ARS song that Mike covers with them playing on it and the other is one written by a Nashville songwriter recorded in an ARS southern rock style.

He released his fourth studio album titled "Mysterious"  in July 2018. The new album features a bluegrass tune he wrote titled "Sweet Kentucky Girl" featuring Rhonda Vincent's award-winning lead guitarist Josh Williams and Sam Bush upright bassist Todd Parks. The title cut is a song Mike was co-writing with former lead guitarist, the late Perry Ray Boyce who passed away from cancer a few years back. Perry was also former lead guitarist for the legendary rock band Steppenwolf. The album also features superb session players Wendell Cox (Travis Tritt), David Northrup (Rick Derringer), Jody Worrell (ATLANTA), and Bethany Olds (Sara Evans/Pam Tillis).

He was nominated for a 2017 Josie Music Award for Artist of the Year in the Outlaw Country Music category. Josie Music Awards recognize the talent of independent artists. The 2017 ceremony was held at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville on September 17th. He was also nominated for a Georgia-Country award for Country Artist of the Year in the Traditional Country category.

Mike was also nominated for a 2018 Josie Music Award for Artist of the Year - Outlaw Country Music category. The ceremony was held on September 8th at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN at the Dollywood Celebrity Theater.

Mike and his band perform regularly at clubs, festivals, fairs, and other venues that embrace original country music.
